Razor bumps and ingrown hair
Those unsightly razor bumps that appear after shaving are actually ingrown hair and can become a nuisance if not treated, or better yet, prevented.

When an area of the skin is shaved, small, irritated bumps can develop when strands of hair curl back on themselves and grow into the skin. They can cause pimples and even scarring. Using and electric razor is not a guarantee against razor bumps. In fact, certain electric shavers can make the problem worse, especially if they are old with dull blades that pull at the skin. The same is true with blade razors that tug and snag instead of cutting the hair cleanly.

Refraining from shaving the affected are will eventually cause the bumps to disappear but this is only a temporary solution and the problem will most likely continue when shaving is resumed. Although razor bumps are most noticeable on the face, they can appear anywhere shaving occurs, particularly if the skin is not properly prepared before shaving.

So what can be done? The first step is to exfoliate the area with products such as soaps and scrubs that contain natural ingredients such as oatmeal or ground almond shells. Then follow with a smooth cleanser like Shea butter and African Black Soap as they both do an excellent job to prepare the skin for shaving.

Next, make sure your shaver has sharpened blades and shave at an angle that offers the least amount of resistance while still getting a close and comfortable shave. This gives those rogue hairs less of a chance to curl back and grown into the skin.

Now that you know what razor bumps really are, you can take the proper steps to prevent them.
