Combination Skin

Combination skin requires different types of skin care on various areas. It might be dry, normal and oily across areas of the face, neck or chest.

Those who have combination skin have to take precautions as some sections may be sensitive to products that would treat other areas.

Combination skin and symptoms

Those who have combination skin will see it most obviously on their face. Often the central part of your face will be oily. This is called the T-Zone and it includes your chin, nose and forehead.

Combination skin types might have dry or flaky skin on their cheeks and enlarged pores across their nose.

Lifestyle tips

Your skin type is often passed on through your genetics however there are also environmental factors which can affect your skin.

Sun damage is one of the biggest factors that can change or worsen any skin issues you have. Wear sunscreen that blocks UVA and UVB rays every day to protect your skin, using a light cream which absorbs quickly into the skin will prevent any oily patches from getting worse.

Those who have combination skin should pay special attention to skin care. Combination skin needs to be cleansed and moisturised daily with natural products that won’t irritate oily areas. It’s also particularly important to stay hydrated if your skin is flaring up as dehydration will worsen any dry or flaky skin you have.

Diet tips

Any skin type can be improved by eating a good diet that is rich in anti-inflammatory foods that are filled with vitamins and minerals. Focus on eating produce that have high levels of vitamin A and D, such as yoghurt, oily fish and fortified breakfast cereals. These foods rebuild healthy skin cells and protect the skin sun damage.

A diet filled with protein, fruits and vegetables will give your skin a boost of antioxidants, helping it to stay clear and balanced.

Sugars, high fructose corn syrup, hydrogenated oils and fried food can make your pores appear larger and increase the amount of oil they produce, causing them to become blocked.

Akoma recommends

Combination skin needs natural skincare that won’t overload your pores with oil or irritate any sensitive areas.

For bathing or washing, use Akoma Black Soap as a natural cleanser which won’t dry out the skin. It’s made from raw shea butter, organic virgin coconut oil and cocoa pods that gently treats oily patches.

Black soap is also rich in antioxidants that improve the general health of your skin, helping it recover from breakouts if your pores get clogged.

Use Akoma Apricot Butter after washing to moisturise your skin. The butter is rich in pure vitamin A that acts as an effective anti-ageing cream. For those with combination skin, apricot butter creates a non-greasy barrier that gently cleanses skin and acts as a barrier against pollutants.
