SUGGESTED USE & BENEFITS

It is believed that the lime tree originated in Southeast Asia, although the word ‘lime’ itself is Arabic – perhaps bestowed by Arabic traders who introduced the limes to India and the Middle East.

Therapeutically, the lime essential oil is probably best known for its support of the digestive system.  It stimulates gastric secretions, gently encourages the appetite and aids in the absorption of nutrients, vitamins, and minerals.

Benefits and Common Uses

The oil’s astringent and antioxidant qualities mean it is excellent when added to blends or lotions for the cleansing, healing, and revitalization of oily or tired skin.  In baths or massage blends, it can assist the soothing of aching muscles and joints and general physical invigoration.

Used in a vaporizer, its potent, zingy aroma is excellent when recovering from illness, especially chronic fatigue.  Like most essential oils, when inhaled it is hard to say whether it is the mind, emotions, or physical body that absorbs the therapeutic effects.  With an oil such as lime, the same invigorating quality that can shift physical tiredness can work simultaneously on sluggish emotion by penetrating and uplifting the ‘fog’.

It is as though the sun and zest of a sunny, exotic climate are encapsulated in this oil’s essence.
