Fine Lines and wrinkles

Fine lines and wrinkles are a natural result of ageing. From the age of 35, skin begins to set into creases which are normally most noticeable around the eyes, mouth and forehead.

Some people might develop wrinkles after damaging the skin or suffering from drying skin conditions such as eczema or psoriasis.

Fine lines and wrinkles signs and symptoms

Fine lines are usually the beginning of deep set wrinkles. They are normally begin on the face on the areas where you express emotion, such as laughter lines around the eyes and smile lines around the mouth.

They become more obvious as your skin ages and loses moisture, making them permanently deeper set.

Lifestyle tips

One of the leading causes of wrinkles is sun damage. UV rays penetrate the outer surface of the skin and damages its supporting structure. You should wear sunscreen of 15 SPF every day, even in cloudy or overcast weather. This blocks the sun’s harmful rays and prevents wrinkles forming all over the body.

Smoking is another reason many people have fine lines and wrinkles. When you smoke, the tobacco in cigarettes dries out the skin, giving it a rough texture and grey colouration. The repetitive movement that is needed to smoke means fine lines quickly start to form around the mouth and on the forehead.

It’s generally recommended not to smoke to protect your general health and your skin.

Diet tips

To stop fine lines and wrinkles, eating a balanced diet rich with vitamins and antioxidants can help to improve your skin’s health.

Vitamin B is very important for forming new and healthy skin cells. Eggs and milk are filled with the different variants of vitamin B that come together to help the skin repair itself.

Antioxidants minimise cell damage and can help to reduce deep set wrinkles. Foods such as dark coloured berries, nuts and dark green vegetables have high levels of antioxidants so regularly include them in your diet.

Akoma recommends

For skin issues like wrinkles, scarring or stretch marks, it’s recommended to use products that penetrate the three layers of your skin: the epidermis, dermis and hypodermis.

Akoma Shea Butter is unrivalled for treating deep set skin issues. Its high count of principal fatty acids increases the levels of vitamin A and E found in the butter.

These vitamins keep your skin protected and supple, which are two key factors that help fine lines fade.

The high antioxidant count in shea butter also helps your skin’s natural repair systems so if new lines appear, your skin will work quickly to help them fade.

Alternatively, use Akoma Coconut Butter as light, daily moisturiser. It is rich in antioxidants, minerals, protein, vitamin E and fiber which all work together to calm and smooth the beginning of wrinkles.

The butter is 100% virgin and organic, and contains no GMO ingredients, making it an ideal moisturiser for those who suffer with generally sensitive skin.
